Dilman Dila is a writer and filmmaker. His most recent book, Where Rivers Go
To Die, was a finalist in the Philip K Dick Awards (2024) and his first collection of short stories, A Killing in the Sun, got critical acclaim upon its release in 2014. He has been recognized in prestigious prizes, including a shortlist for the British Science Fiction Association Awards (2021), and the Nommo Awards for Best Novella (2021, 2022). He is an active member of international science fiction communities, including the influential SFWA. He was nominated for Best First Feature Film by a Director at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (2014), for The Felistas Fable, which won several awards in many competitions. His short masterpiece, What Happened in Room 13 (2007), has attracted over eight million views on YouTube. Other notable films include The Sound of One Leg Dancing (2011), which won The Jury Award at the Nepal International Indigenous Film Festival (2012), and Her Broken Shadow (2017), which screened at festivals like Durban International Film Festival and AFI’s New African Film Festival.

Dilstories, founded in 2011 by Dilman Dila, is a major player in Uganda’s film industry. Its productions include The Kojja (2022) and Mama and Me (2021), both 52-episode TV series commissioned by Dstv. It’s in-house TV series are Kabi and Kalo (2023, 2025) and The Love Makanika (2015). Its films include The Felistas Fable (2013), which won several awards at the Uganda Film Festival in 2014. Dilstories focuses on socially conscious stories about issues in the communities it works with, and it has made corporate documentaries for clients, including The World Bank. Since 2017, Dilstories partnered with The DOEN Foundation to train filmmakers around Uganda. Dilstories contributes to the development of the film industry by investing in infrastructure, and these include a film studio with a sound stage and a film collective to provide a platform for filmmakers to network and advance their careers.
